What is Mold?

Mold is a type of fungus. Small organisms can be a variety of colors and live almost anywhere indoors and outdoors. Molds thrive on moisture and reproduce through lightweight spores that travel through the air. You’re exposed to mold every day. They’re usually harmless in small amounts. When combined with moisture they can start to grow. There are many varieties of mold that can harm your health and those in your home, especially if you have allergies or asthma.

This is a great resource to read on things you should know about mold. Of course, a simple way for your own reassurance is to have us do a mold test.

Our inspectors have experience in looking for potential mold growth. We know the areas to look at more closely and the possible warning signs of mold growth. In an older home, there are many potential areas of concern. In newer homes, a settling foundation can cause a myriad of issues related to mold growth.

If you see a grayish area on your bathroom wall or ceiling, or in the basement of your home, you may want to have your home tested for air quality. Our air quality testing will check your home for a wide variety of molds. We use a special filtration system that traps air particles in a special filter. We then overnight the specimen to a lab who runs a battery of tests, and overnight the results back to us. Both mold testing and air quality are ways to provide you peace of mind as a home buyer.
